Cumming Georgia is a city in Forsyth County, Georgia, United States. The population was 4,220 at the 2000 census taking. Census Estimates of 2005 indicate a population of 5,802. The city is the county seat of Forsyth County, and is a city in a Decade long growth spurt due to the location and the pretty Lake Lanier. 

The city is said to be named either for Colonel William Cumming of Augusta, a prominent lawyer, or by local Cherokees for Sir Alexander Cumming of England, who settled in America in 1729 and became a Cherokee leader.

There are a number of campgrounds in the city including Bald Ridge Creek Park, Sawnee Park and Shady Grove Park. Also located near Cumming is the historical Mill Covered Bridge, built in 1906, which spans Settendown Creek.The Lanierland Music Park located just north of Cumming provides visitors with the top country music entertainment from early summer to late fall.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 4,220 people, 1,427 households, and 960 families residing in the city. The Cumming population density was 276.6/km² (717.1/mi²). There were 1,507 housing units at an average density of 98.8/km² (256.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the city of Cumming was 89.48% White, 2.01% African American, 0.31% Native American, 0.26% Asian, 5.69% from other races, and 2.25% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 16.68% of the population.There were 1,427 Cumming Georgia households out of which 32.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.0% were married couples living together, 15.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.7% were non-families. 28.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 14.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
